The Island of Ventotene

Ventotene here we come!

The island of Ventotene is one of a group of four islands north of Naples called the  Pontine islands.  In actuality, I had been planning on going to one of the other islands called Palmarola. But we ended up pulling into the port just as the boat for Palmarola was leaving. Then we almost missed the boat to Ventotene. We made it just in the nick of time!

After a short walk around the port of Ventotene, we paid the captain of a small boat to take us around the island. The water was unbelievably blue and clear.

I know this is a blog, but if the saying 'a picture is worth a thousand words' was ever true, it is certainly true of the following picture:

That's Mare and I snorkeling in the pristine waters of Ventotene. It was such a joy to show my wife and Tom and Donna the beauty of Italy. And we could never forget my cousin Giusy!

When our boat ride around the island was finished, we went to one of the restaurants and ordered some fish and chips - south Italian style! Yummmmm. Oh, and the captain's wife was the cook!

It was a beautiful day that none of us will ever forget. One more look at the blue water and then one more night in Latina ....
