Pescara Food

The food has been unbelievable - we have been enjoying the hospitality of Santo's relatives on his mother's side.  Ilenya, her husband Fabio and their daughter Vitoria.

Breakfast at a cafe consists of Italian cappuccino and brioche - nutella, cream or marmalade.

Lunch between 1 and 2 consists of fresh buffala mozzarella,  lasagne, prosciutto,  fresh ricotta with crushed pistachios,  salad, rice ball and roasted veggies.

Dinner occurs at 8 or later.  Always start with antipasta - which is a meal in itself.  Sometimes a seafood platter or pasta or both and maybe a few more dishes too. Pizza was unbelievable - toppings you would not expect: tuna and onion, eggplant and zucchini, potato, as well as the traditional margheritta.  Arrosticini - lamb on a skewer - roasted on the grill.  Arrosticini is a dish Pescara is known for.

And then dessert.

Ilenya and Fabio would go home to put Vitorria to bed ... and we would walk ... at least a couple of miles - and maybe a swim in the ocean for the boys.

Pescara

The drive from Rome to Pescara was spectacular!!!  The mountains were crazy with houses and towns perched on top.

Santo, Tom & Donna arrived safely in Italy. They don't have email or wifi access right now. Can you believe the Rome airport did not have wifi? What is up with that?

Santo arrived first and had to wait 2.5 hours for Tom & Donna. After waiting at their baggage claim and there was no sign of the Newports and all the luggage was gone from that flight, Santo panicked a bit. After looking for them for over an hour, Sant found them at the car rental counter. The story should be interesting once they are able to get online and give us the low down.

The only thing I have heard via text was that they were treated like kings and queens tonight for dinner at one of Santo's relative's house.

And where was MaryEllen this whole time you ask?!? WORKING! I thought it was suppose to always be All About Mary, at least that is what I have been told.

JFK

The next adventure begins!   We're at JFK waiting for our flight to Madrid and then on to Rome, Italy where we meet Sant.  Hit up the Shake Shack for a burger before boarding.  We were starving!

Its been a long day so far- we left Duanesburg around noon and took the Taconic Parkway to NYC.  It was scenic - but no Starbucks!  Couldn't find one at JFK either - what's up with that?

I planned to pack my own healthy snacks but that didn't happen - and, I forgot my hand sanitizer!  Guess were at the mercy of airline food.  I do like peanuts - and maybe they will have the biscoff cookies.
